Interview With:: Viv and The Revival

{All questions answered by singer, lead guitarist and writer, Viv}

You’ve just released/are just about to release your first full length album. Compared to your previous releases, what does this album mean to you?

This album is the first full length release. It feels like the start for some reason, as if everything before just led to this moment. I’m very proud of these songs and can’t wait for the world to hear them!

I’ve read that you grew up around parents who were involved in the music industry. Did that have any influence on you becoming a musician or did you automatically know that music was something you wanted to do as a career?

It completely had an influence on me. As a kid, I was surrounded by musicians and music was something I gravitated towards very naturally. It’s almost like I lived my life through music, everything revolved around it.

The Introduction is a really great album, in my opinion. As each track plays through, it feels more and more like this album is almost like an anthem for those who continue to pursue their dreams, no matter what. On your Facebook page, you actually say that “every person that reads [the bio section] is the Revival…This is your moment, this is your time, this is your world, this is your Revival.” These are extremely powerful words and really shows how connected you are with your fans. Where did this motivation to inspire others come from? A life experience? Someone who inspired you? Etc.

First off, thank you so much for the compliment! I think there’s something at the core of me that wants to inspire and move people. I get chills and goose bumps when I hear beautiful music or see moving images, and I want people to feel the same things when they listen to my music.

It’s hard to choose which song is the best off the record! You can really hear your heart and soul in these lyrics, and it’s something I admire. Which song is your favorite off The Introduction and why?

I really feel close to all of them. It’s impossible to choose because they each have their own story and their own world.

A great fun fact to share is that you’ve had some of your songs played in television shows, national commercials, and even movies. If you could place one of your songs in a movie or tv show of your choice, which song would it be and in which movie/tv show would it be in?

Well, it’s not on anymore but “Entourage” would have been the perfect show for any of these songs. I heard they’re making a movie so they should use the whole album in it. 

I think that The Introduction is meant to be an album to introduce every person who comes across your music to who Viv and the Revival is. If you could name one thing you would want people to walk away with after listening to this album, what would it be?

I just want people to feel inspired to do anything they’ve ever dreamt of after they hear the songs. I want them to walk away happy after listening.

What can we expect next from Viv and the Revival?

We are going to play a bunch of shows and tour the world!

Review:: The Introduction | Viv and the Revival

Chances are that you’ve head a song from Viv and the Revival, you just might not realize it. The one man band from Philadelphia has had its music played on the likes of NBC, ESPN, and MTV, in films and in commercials. This is a trend that is likely to continue with the release of the band’s full length album, The Introduction.

It’s impossible to describe what the band, or album for that matter, sounds like. Each song seems different from the next with styles varying from rock, to pop punk, and even hip hop. What does remain the same throughout the album, however, is Viv Peyrat’s clearly amazing song crafting ability.

A song like “Fire” is crafted to pop perfection.  Right from the start of the song you’re bulldozed by an infection melody and before you get a chance to recover you’ll find yourself steamrolled with a catchy hook.  Then you’ve got a song like “Criminals”, which is essentially the story of Jane, Johnny and their love.  A slower, smoother, and much deeper track all together.

If you told me that “Welcome to a Good Time” was a new song from a top hip hop artist, I wouldn’t doubt you in the slightest. This is a clearly hip hop inspired party song and it is unbelievably infectious.  The most balanced and maybe my favorite song on the album is “Rocket to Mars”. It takes a little bit of every other song on the album and melds it together into a fun, catchy, Andrew McMahon-esqe track.

One of the producers on The Introduction was Grammy-nominated Rick Friedrich, who has worked with the likes of Kanye West and Rihanna; it shows. Names like that may make you think that this is a straight pop album, which might turn some people off; it isn’t. I guarantee that there is something for everyone on this album and in my opinion there are far more hits than misses on the album.
