50 Acts You Won’t Want To Miss At SXSW (Part 4)

image

Since none of us here at Lucy Out Loud will be able to attend SXSW this year, we’ve put together a list of 50 acts(in no particular order) we think those of you that are attending shouldn’t miss!

To check out our fourth installment (acts 31-40), click “Read More”!

*Note: some acts we’ve included are performing at South By So What?! and not South By South West. However, since the festival takes place during the week of South By Southwest, we’ve decided to still include them in our list!

Part 4 (Acts 31-40). Check out Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

  1. Hydra Melody
This San Antonio-based band had an incredible 2013, including performing at 6 showcases at SXSW and even opened for Third Eye Blind’s sold out fall tour! The band are performing at 5 showcases at this year’s SXSW and plan on releasing three 4-5 song EPs, each different from the other. Now if you don’t think that’s awesome, I don’t know what is!
    Where to catch Hydra Melody: 3.11 – 1am – RedGorilla Music Festival @ The Blind Pig Pub; 3.12 – 1:45pm – Big Picture Media Showcase @ Thirsty Nickel; 3.13 – 6:15pm – Lynwood King’s River City Showcase @ The 311 Club; 3.13 – 11pm – RedGorilla Music Festival @ The Thirsty Nickel; 3.15 – 8pm – Eye In The Sky Showcase @ Shiner’s Saloon

  2. The Architects
The Architects have a sincerely unique view on the current state of the music industry as a whole and are trying to redefine and reestablish the modern idea of “doing something big.” Their goal is “to remind you that music is not a temporary fashion accessory fling”, and I could not agree more! Currently, the band is involved in the project, Border Wars, which is a series of five connected episodes told through a collection of comic book stories and their accompanying soundtrack releases.
    Where to catch The Architects: 3.12 – 10:30pm – Sony Music Showcase @ Hanger Lounge; 3.13 – 10:30pm – Midcoast Takeover @ Shangri La

  3. Driver Friendly
When you look through the roster for Hopeless Records, you see some of the biggest pop/punk names around today – All Time Low, The Wonder Years, Yellowcard, and a handful of other superstars. You’ll also see bands like Driver Friendly – a six-pack of Texans who are poised to be something big sometime very soon. Keep your eyes on these guys!
    Where to catch Driver Friendly: 3.11 – 9pm – Official SXSW Showcase @ Dirty Dog Bar; 3.14 – 12:35pm – Big Picture Media Showcase @ Blind Pig Roof; 3.14 – 5pm – Macbeth/Charlie Showcase

  4. Mime Game
Mime Game is one of those bands that have already fulfilled a long list of goals within their first year of being a band. In 2013 alone, the band toured along the eastern half of the country, played SXSW, and released their latest EP. This is a band on a mission and there is no sign of them stopping anytime soon.
    Where to catch Mime Game: 3.14 – 6pm – Music Saves Lives Showcase @ Firehouse Lounge; 3.14 – 9pm – Tapasitas

  5. Warm Soda
I came across this band randomly and after my first listen, I was already hooked. Though called a pop group, Warm Soda combines glam, garage rock, and some of that bubblegum pop that all of us secretly love. They were recently named one of Rolling Stone’s “Bands To Watch from San Francisco” – and I truly believe that they are.
    Where to catch Warm Soda: 3.11 – 1pm @ Cheer Up Charlies; 3.12 – 10:30pm @ Hotel Vegas; 3.13 – 9:45pm @ Trailer Space Records; 3.14 – 6:30pm @ Hotel Vegas; 3.15 – 11:45pm @ Hotel Vegas

  6. Real Estate
Real Estate released their third album, Atlas, only a week ago and it’s already received tons of buzz. The band signed to Domino Recording Company back in 2011 and it’s easy to see why this band has gained so much attention over the past few years. Their indie rock sound is instantly captivating and their new album is one you’ll be playing all year round.
    Where to catch Real Estate: 3.13 – Dr. Marten’s Showcase @ Bar 96; 3.14 – Pitchfork’s SXSW Showcase @ the Central Presbyterian Church; 3.14 – Spotify House

  7. The Suffers
This ten-piece ensemble from Houston combines classic rock & roll with elements of soul into something that certainly stands out in today’s music scene. The group plans to release their first full-length later this year, so getting a sneak peek at that is sure to be a treat… if they can all fit on a stage together.
Where to catch The Suffers: 3.13 – 3pm – Symphony Square Showcase @ 1101 Red River St.; 3.14 – 1pm – The Future of Music Showcase @ Shiner Saloon; 3.15 – 11pm – Convoy Group Official SXSW Showcase @ The Dirty Dog

  8. Printz Board
Grammy-Winning musician, songwriter, producer, artist and entrepreneur Printz Board has a lot going on in his life. For those of you unfamiliar with Printz Board, he is the man behind Grammy winning songs from Black Eyed Peas “My Humps”, “Don’t Phunk with my Heart”, and “Where Is The Love?” He’s collaborated with Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, and even Katy Perry! He recently launched his solo career and already announced an upcoming debut album. In the meantime, you can catch him opening up for CeeLo Green at this years SXSW.
Where to catch Printz Board: 3.15 – 3:15pm – Rachel Ray Feedback BBQ Party @ 801 Red River St; 3.15 – 8:30pm – SXSW Cedar Street Courtyard Showcases @ Cedar Street Stage

  9. & 10. Taking Back Sunday & The Used
I’m coupling these two together for multiple reasons. Most importantly, and obviously, are their live shows – they’re phenomenal. But, aside from that, both have been staples in the music scene for more than a decade, are teaming up for a co-headlined tour this spring, and both have new music on the very-near horizon.
Where to catch Taking Back Sunday and The Used: 3.14 – South By So What?! @ Quiktrip Park
