Review: Night Panther | Night Panther

For those who like: Passion Pit, Friendly Fires,  of Montreal, Vacationer

Does Night Panther like sex? Yes. Do they know how to have fun? Oh yeah. Do they make it clear that they are good? Very. After listening to the Philadelphia bands’ self-titled album you get a very strong idea of all those things and more. The falsettos of lead singer Farzad Houshiarnejad are prominent on every track, and when finding out that he is a fan of Freddie Mercury, it is no surprise. The syrupy sound of the synth that is utilized throughout the album adds to their sexy style.

Night Panther has busted onto the scene playing festivals such as CMJ and SXSW and have been playing numerous shows in their hometown. Understandably after giving the album a listen you can see why they have made such a splash playing with bands like Holy Ghost! and Vacationer. They are fun and have a spin on something different, which really works for them.

The way the album opens is warm and inviting with keys and synth introducing you to this jangly sexy band. It’s a great way to see what you are getting yourself into. Two tracks that really stand out on the album are Fever and Queen Bitch, and they couldn’t be more different from each other. Fever is this funky glittery track that just oozes sex and makes you want to dance, whether it is alone or with someone by your side.  At the end of the song, Farzad repeats “All I want to do is make love to you” and you get the feeling that he will be successful.  Queen Bitch on the other hand is a piano ballad that echoes, “You were always on my mind” but packs an emotional punch to it. A common theme on the album seems to be love and lust and some darker emotions that rear their head towards the end. The last track, Fire, is also one that really can get you going. Glittery synth sounds halfway through ease you into the more dance worthy part of the song that you do not want to miss.

The band classifies themselves as “sex pop” which is totally easy to understand why. They ooze sexuality and make you think of tight pants, thrusting and lace. It is easy to see that Night Panther will be successful in the future, with their sexy tunes and saucy vibe, and if they turn you on the next chance to catch them is December 28th at the new venue Boot & Saddle in Philadelphia.
