Review:: Resurrection | New Found Glory

image

“I’m just dust in the breeze, but I wanna be a hurricane.”

Reflections on personal growth and burnt bridges accentuate New Found Glory’s eighth studio album, aptly titled Resurrection. Combining catchy hooks and a sound that is distinctly ‘pop punk,’ NFG solidifies their spot as top dogs in their genre with this solid release.

Addictive choruses and anthemic verses are sure to have listeners at least bobbing their heads through their first time through. The album starts powerful with “Selfless” before changing the tempo with “Angel.” However, the monumentum never slows down, as the band presents the album’s thesis in “Stubborn”, proclaiming, “I’m not trying to win you back, I’m not on my knees. I’m just owe you this much: I’m not holding grudges anymore.”

With very few misses, sly digs and strong instrumentals make Resurrection a must listen for fans of the pop punk genre.

Review:: Small Town Favorites | Stages & Stereos

If your autumn feels like it’s lacking in the pop-punk department, have no fear: the fifth studio release from Tallahassee’s Stages and Stereos will gladly fill that void.

Typically when a concert-goer is unfamiliar with an opener’s music, their newest release is the first one they’ll turn to in order to ease their curiosity. As the opener for Mayday Parade, Man Overboard, and Cartel on the Glamour Kills Tour this year, it was important for the band to bring their A-game with their Small Town Favorites EP. And if this record is any indicator, kids are going to be showing up to the venues early.

Daniel Lancaster boasts an impressive vocal range over the course of the album’s five songs, reaching trademark pop-punk highs, smooth lows, and a sounds reminiscent of The Killers’ Brandon Flowers (check the intro to “Coup de Grace).

Lead-off track “Cool to Be Vain” starts the EP off on solid footing, with additional compliments to Ian Edge and a thumping introductory bassline. The upbeat “Even Tides” dances its way in behind “Cool to Be Vain,” further flexing the group’s muscles when they slow the tempo down [briefly] for the first time on the record.

While the first three-fifths of the album are enjoyable, the concluding two songs are the gems on Small Town Favorites. “1990” is a tempo-shifting singalong, complete with an infectious chorus, stomping drumwork from Donnie Webb, and a quick guitar solo courtesy of Zach Schweizer, that drive through the song’s midway point.

The self-titled closing track gives Lancaster one last outlet to show his skill, complimented greatly by the group’s back “whoa-oh-ohs” behind him. The feeling of growing up and living in a small town is summed up in the simple chorus – “To hell with it, to hell with it, I’m aware of everything that I’ve done. I’m not done.”

Small Town Favorites does what a good pop-punk album should do – it gives its listeners something to sing to, and more importantly, something to relate to. The songs here are lined with emotion, and make no effort to hide it away. The GK Tour has a reputation of taking some huge acts across the country while creating others, and if this album is what Stages and Stereos can do, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot more of them down the road.

Go Radio Comes To An End

Below is a statement from the band:

It is with heavy hearts that after 7 years of making music and touring the world, Go Radio has come to an end.  For some of you this comes as a huge shock and for our friends and family this will be a certain sense of closure.  There is no easy way to write something like this so we won’t beat around the bush.

Earlier this year Jason came to us with the news that he felt his time with Go Radio had come to an end.  He felt a shift in priority to spend more time with his wife and retire from a life on the road.  The decision to end this chapter was far from easy, but it simply would not be Go Radio without all four of us. Because of that, this decision is the right one.

The experiences, relationships, and memories we have shared are irreplaceable.  You, the fans, have had our backs from day one and we could not be more grateful for what you enabled us to accomplish.  You’ve given us a chance to travel the world and share our stories as you shared yours with us.  We cannot thank you enough. We always strived to be the best band and friends we could be.  To take the time to meet each and every one of you, talk to you, laugh with you, cry with you… we wouldn’t trade those moments for anything.  Go Radio was not just a band, it became a worldwide family, a lifeboat for all of us to keep our heads above water in good times and bad.  Music is immortal.  What we’ve created will never die.  We encourage you all to focus on the good as it significantly outweighs any sense of bad.

As for the future… we will all be involved with music one way or another and will be active in letting you know what we’re up to.”
