Recent Release: “Our Time Now”
For Louisville rockers Dash|Ten, 2016 is shaping up to be an incredible year. Just last month the band released their debut self-titled album, which features lead singles “What You Wanted” and “The Scene,” and next week the band will be hitting the road to perform on the Vans Warped Tour all summer long! We caught up with the band to discuss how Dash|Ten formed, what inspires them, and what they do outside of music. Check it out below and be sure to catch them on Warped at the Full Sail Stage (dates here)!
How did Dash|Ten form and come to be what it is today?
We’ve all been musicians for the U.S. Army some time, and our paths have overlapped here and there. Corrin had been a solo artist and wanted to shift gears into a band. Steve and Pete were contacted, and the rest is history.
Who are some of your musical influences – both as a band and individually?
As individuals, we have a pretty diverse set of influences. Steve’s is definitely the most eclectic, pulling influence from Jimi Hendrix, Django Rhinehardt (a 1930s gypsy guitarist), and John Lee Hooker (a blues guitar player). Pete has a lot of 90s influence, like Tool, Sublime, and Santana. Corrin loves her modern rock, like Hoobastank, Foo Fighters and Paramore. The sound comes together in a way we really love.
What do you enjoy most about playing shows?
Definitely connecting with fans. There are some who have been following Corrin since her first EP in 2008, and we are dedicated to keeping in touch online. Twitter and Instagram are places we can follow fans back, and then seeing their profile pic appear live at a show… There’s really no better feeling.
What do you do when you’re not playing music?
Corrin turns into a bit of a hermit. It might be because we are on the road almost 300 days a year, but it’s really a chicken or egg debate. She always has the latest gadgets, is working to make her home “smart” and geeks out playing Pokémon TCG on her iPad. Steve loves riding his motorcycle fast on winding mountain roads, is a pretty good cook, and is definitely in the best shape of all of us. He’s not really one to sit still for long, so our time on the road stays interesting. Pete is a sports enthusiast, mostly college sports [GO WILDCATS (U of A)], and likes to travel. Both Corrin and Pete are in online classes right now, pursuing their degrees, so we definitely stay busy and time management is key!
